The Blazer: Fashionable Outerwear for Every Man

What makes the blazer so great?

The blazer is one of the most well realized items in a man's fashion collection. Remained largely unchanged from its origins, it's the go-to item for any business outfit. Despite it being considered a "dress" item, modern outfits also utilize them in more casual ways. While the application of the blazer can be fairly standard, the color, cut and accessories paired with your blazer can speak volumes about your personality and defining qualities.

If you do not own a blazer, or in sore need of a new one, don't fret, because Kohl's has a great selection waiting for you.

Styling your blazer

When it comes to styling your blazer you need to consider its color, but also which shirt and pants you want to wear. When you need to be presentable for professional or dress occasions, common practice is to match your blazer and pants, and allow your shirt a pop of color that complements them, if you're going tieless. If you're sporting a tie, then allow either your shirt or tie to pop. Whichever is not your accent color should coordinate accordingly.

How to pair your shirt

Your shirt can either be a solid color or patterned depending on the occasion. For something more casual, your blazer could pair very nicely with a pair of khakis or chinos and a patterned shirt. Depending on the pattern you can go for a more bohemian look, or something a little more reserved. Reserved patterns are going to fall more into stripes and plaid. Bohemian looks are likely to feature more foloral or simply printed patterns.

How to pair your pants

When it comes to pants you have many options. Some looks will benefit greatly from a very casual pairing of a dark blazer and a pair of pants. Likewise, you can dress up the look with a brown pair of dress loafers, a brown blazer and a dark blue jeans. Switching gears you have options with the khakis and chinos mentioned above. Finally, when getting into dress pants, be mindful to make your colors a bit more, as business and formal looks thrive on uniformity.

Choosing your accessories

As it is for women, so to is it for men: accessories can make or upgrade an outfit. Especially when you have to match your blazer and bottoms, it can be extremely beneficial to pick a tie that pops, or complement your jacket with a pocket square. Men's accessories are often overlooked, but they are just as important as a woman's earrings, necklaces, or bracelets. If it comes down to not wanting to accessorize boldly, consider owning a nice watch to give your look a sense of affluence and extra class.

Ties/bowties

Business casual is definitely the best place to wear a bow tie. All too often the workplace ends up being a dull ride, where fashion goes to die. But what if you could spruce things up? Grab a spiffy bow tie, and pair it with your usual attire, to level it up.

However, there are select instances where a bow tie is not appropriate, and a normal tie should be your choice. As your often accustomed to finding ties that match your outfits, consider learning a new knot to add an extra layer of class to your outfit. As long as your tie does not clash with your outfit, you're good to go.

Pocket squares

Pocket squares are back! Got a blazer? Get a square. But don't be fooled. A matching pocket square and tie duo isn't always the answer, but definitely a good one. They are nice and you should definitely get one, but the best thing you can do is to mix and match. You see, a matching tie and pocket square can be too monochromatic if the rest of your outfit is the same color (basically if you're wearing a suit, it's best to change things up a bit). The pocket square is designed to be a brilliant pop, or something subtle.

Cufflinks

When in doubt, cufflinks are a great way to add to your already crisp look. These can be used to express a lot of personality in professional circles, as they're low profile. Yet, each set has its own unique qualities and quirks to discover, which can give just the right touch of individuality to your suit.
