Different Types of Mixer Attachments

For less of an arm workout when kneading dough, try using a dough hook. Dough kneaders and dough hooks make mixing and kneading the dough a breeze because its mechanism mimics kneading by hand. Using any other type of mixer attachment might overheat and damage the mixer.
Dough hooks come in two shapes: C-shaped dough hooks and spiral dough hooks. As the name would suggest, a C-shaped dough hook is shaped like the letter C and works by pushing the dough from the side of the mixing bowl. Spiral dough hooks, on the other hand, push the dough from the bottom of the bowl. Other popular mixer attachments include pasta rollers, flat beaters, balloon whisks, and edge beaters.
How to Knead Dough
A dough hook is sure to become your trusty sidekick when you are whipping up heavy mixtures such as pizza dough, pasta, or bread. The hook rapidly develops gluten (the protein in wheat dough responsible for elasticity that keeps air bubbles inside) resulting in fluffy, chewy bread.
If you don’t like to knead dough by hand, here’s how to get the job done with a mixer:
- Put the stand mixer on a low speed then add your ingredients
- Allow it to knead the dough for roughly 3-5 minutes
- When it’s ready, the dough will cling to the hook and clean the sides of the bowl
- The dough should feel smooth and elastic once it’s kneaded enough
