Types of Kids’ Desks
The first thing you’ll notice about desks for kids is that they’re much smaller than regular desks. This is great because this means that it will take up less space in a room than a normal size desk would, leaving more of the floor open for other furniture. But before going out and buying just any desk, here are some features to look out for:

If your child will be using a desktop computer or laptop, then a computer desk is the best option. They typically have features like a keyboard tray and extra shelving below the top. For the artistic kid, look for art desks that can easily tilt or move when drawing or coloring.
How High Should a Child’s Desk & Chair Be?
A kids’ desk should be around 7 to 9 inches higher than the chair. This will allow your child’s arms to rest comfortably on the desktop without them having to hunch over. It may be a good idea to find a desk with adjustable legs that can grow with kids. Their chair should allow them to sit with their feet flat on the ground and their knees should be bent at a 90-degree angle.
Other Study Room Essentials
If the desk doesn’t come with chairs, you may want to consider adding a child’s swivel desk chair, rolling chair, or stationary chair in their favorite color. Sometimes the desk storage just isn’t enough. You can always add bins and baskets for storing everything from writing utensils and folders to books and even snacks. You'll want to ensure that they have sufficient lighting with a desk lamp.
